Why cloth?
What kind of nappies you will use for your baby is one of the most important decisions you will make as a new parent. It is a misconception that using cloth nappies is time consuming and hard work but with a little research you may be very surprised at how little time cloth nappies actually take. Modern cloth nappies really have made using cloth nappies as easy as using disposables. Nowadays, there is great concern for the damage that we are doing to the environment. We live in such a disposable society and give little thought as to where all the waste we generate will end up. Disposable baby nappies are amongst the worst offenders when it comes to landfill waste. Did you know that over 27 billion nappies are sold and disposed of in landfill in the United States alone each year? and that each of those nappies will take over 300 years to breakdown? That means that every disposable nappy ever made will still be sitting in a landfill with raw fecal matter somewhere. Disposable nappies also consume alot of precious resources during the manufacturing process along with many chemicals. Another argument against disposables is the manufacturing process which wastes alot of resources and the chemcials that are used in the manufacturing process. These chemicals in disposables come in contact with your babys skin for many years and the long term effects of this is currently unknown. In choosing cloth you can be assured that you are helping the environment as cloth nappies can be used again and again and for multiple children. They are also soft against your baby's skin and chemical free which is good for your baby's health and decreases the chance of your baby developing nappy rash and irritation. Once you realise how easy it is cloth nappying can be great fun and can be very addictive with the large range of funky colour and designs you can mix and match with your baby's outfits.
